Nearly 17,000 people die on South African roads every year, including almost 3,000 children.
These fatalities not only devastate families and communities, the cost of deploying police and traffic services, emergency medical services, forensic pathology services, rescue services, hospital costs, etc. is a staggering R149 billion a year – equivalent to 5% of the country’s annual GDP.
Losing so many young people every year in the prime of their lives means that the bright, hopeful future of many communities is being abruptly snuffed out.
G-Cap’s Safer Roads For All (SR4A) initiative engages and connects with the youth through autosport and Hip-hop culture. Using activities like drifting, spinning, advanced driving, and driving’s links with Hip-hop, SR4A provides real-world experiences within safe, controlled environments. It educates the youth, steering them away from road-related incidents and instilling in them an appreciation for road safety as a civil duty that begins with the individual.
